Pop legend Madonna has come under fire once more, this time from a senior Russian official. The singer was on Wednesday criticised for showing support to a girl group, the members of whom are currently trying to avoid harsh jail sentences. Russian prosecutors on Tuesday called for the three members of the feminist band “Pussy Riot”, Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Yekaterina Samutsevich, to be jailed for three years, stating that they had insulted all of Russian Orthodoxy and posed a danger to society. The group had performed a song criticising Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in a Moscow cathedral and was charged with hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.
