Housing Project to Create 60,000 Jobs
A major new housing development that could create up to 60,000 new jobs has finally been approved after a decade of delays.
The project, at Ebbsfleet Valley in Kent, aims to build 22,600 homes but was held up by wrangling over transport links and other infrastructure problems.
It has been confirmed that the Government, three councils and developers Land Securities have signed off the plans.
Land Securities, which has invested over £100m in the development, said the first 1,500 properties are earmarked for completion by 2020 at Eastern Quarry, with a further 3,000 homes due to be built by 2030/31.
The site covers 1,000 acres of land between Dartford and Gravesend, which has stood idle while financial disputes over transport links and investment in community services were resolved.
They included contributions to two major road junction improvements.
Eastern Quarry Development In Kent The first 1,500 homes are due for completion by 2020 at Eastern Quarry
It is understood the housing minister Grant Shapps intervened to push the project forward as part of the Government’s bid to ‘get Britain building’.
The United Kingdom’s construction industry has been the biggest drag on economic growth in recent times.
In the second quarter of the year, construction output shrank by 3.9 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Colette O’Shea of Land Securities said: “We are pleased that a way forward has been found to unlock the potential at Eastern Quarry.
We will now sit down with our housebuilding partners and press ahead to start delivering homes and jobs.

The Voice Beneath the Voice - By Nnamdi Okose
On Motivation
I recently came across an article on "Doing the right thing for the right reason" on Psychology today. The article is based on an interesting finding by Konrath, Fuhrel-Forbis, Lou, & Brown that people who do regular volunteer work tend to be healthier than people who do not. This seems a bit fantabulous but my purpose will not be to disprove the above finding as its truth or untruth will have no bearing on the crux of this essay. I think the mere fact that a study was undertaken to find a correlation between volunteering(Doing good) to health(living longer) is in itself instructive.

"The Jonathan They Don’t Know" - Reuben Abati
The clear danger to public affairs commentary is that we have a lot of unintelligent people repeating silly clichés and too many intelligent persons wasting their talents lending relevance to thoughtless conclusions.
“THEY” in this piece refers to all the cynics, the pestle-wielding critics, the unrelenting, self-appointed activists, the idle and idling, twittering, collective children of anger, the distracted crowd of Facebook addicts, the BBM-pinging soap opera gossips of Nigeria, who seem to be in competition among themselves to pull down President Goodluck Jonathan. This army of sponsored and self-appointed anarchists is so diverse; many of them don’t even know why or how they should attack the President.

7 Airborne Threats to Your Health
Formaldehyde. Radioactive chemicals. Bug droppings. You wouldn't dare eat food laced with this stuff—heck, you'd probably alert the health department. And yet you may be sucking down these toxins, and a flurry of others, with every breath.
"Most people aren't aware of the dangers of the air they breathe. The contaminants are often invisible, and the harmful effects may not be dramatic at first," says Anne Steinemann, Ph.D., a civil and environmental engineer at the University of Washington. "But exposures add up over time, and so does the damage."
In fact, a growing body of research suggests that airborne contaminants may impair your memory, weaken your sperm, and raise your risk of heart disease and cancer. (They're not the only thing you need to watch out for.
To keep your body healthy, avoid America's Most Dangerous Workout Fads.) Worse, your body has no internal smoke alarm to signal danger. So we've identified the biggest airborne enemies and outlined strategies to help you protect your lungs—and your life.
America's Most Dangerous Workout Fads
Dust Mites
You're not the only one making babies in bed: Dust mites may be multiplying by the millions in your mattress and pillow.
If you're allergic to them and their droppings (often found in dust) a noseful can trigger sneezing and watery eyes, says allergist James Sublett, M.D Allergic or not, there's a greater danger: In a University of Cincinnati study, mice that regularly inhaled dust mite debris had narrowed arteries in their lungs, a condition that can lead to heart failure.
To beat the bugs for good, you need to launch an all-out offensive. A recent study in Environmental Health Perspectives found that using mite-proof mattress cases, washing bed linens weekly in hot water, and intensively vacuuming and dry steam cleaning carpets and upholstery all helped slash dust mite counts by up to 95 percent.
Air Pollutants Inside the Home Watch Video
That takes care of the critters. Now tackle their feces and body fragments floating around the room: For an hour a day, run an air purifier with a prefilter and an electrostatic filter, such as the Ken-more Electrostatic Air Cleaner ($300, amazon.com). This can significantly lower levels of airborne mite particles, say Korean scientists.
Mold
You check your bread for mold, but how about your air? Aspergillus and Penicillium—the two most common indoor molds—fling out tiny spores and mycotoxins, which can penetrate deep into your lungs.
Even nonallergic folks can experience wheeze-inducing nasal inflammation from inhaling Aspergillus particles, according to a recent study from Finland. Worst case: Fungi can lead to a life-threatening lung infection—made even scarier by the fact that molds are increasingly drug resistant.
Victor Moses completes move to Chelsea
Nigeria forward, Victor Moses from Wigan Athletic Thursday completed his move to Chelsea FC.
The 21-year-old, who featured for the Latics against the European champions last week, agreed personal terms to complete his switch to Stamford Bridge.
No details were released regarding the fee or the length of Moses’ contract.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan accused Chelsea last week of “messing about” over the fee to be paid for Moses, with the Blues’ offers up to that point conditional on add-ons and Wigan thought to be holding out for around £9million.

Microsoft Rebrands: Unveils New Logo after 25years
Microsoft, which has used its solid, boldfaced, italicized logo since 1987, is expected to unveil its new, more colorful logo Thursday at the Boston opening of the 23rd Microsoft store. It will also appear Thursday at the Seattle and Bellevue Microsoft stores, as well as on the microsoft.com home page. The new logo, which incorporates a multicolored Windows symbol in addition to the "Microsoft" name in straightforward, lighter type, is intended to "signal the heritage but also signal the future — a newness and freshness," said Jeff Hansen, Microsoft's general manager of brand strategy.
It's coming at a time when the company is preparing to launch new or significantly updated versions of nearly every one of its products, from Windows to Windows Phone to Office.
Many of those products will feature a new look and feel — cleaner, with fewer borders and less clutter, and more colorful tile-based designs.
Given all that, "we felt it was a good time to express the newness in the Microsoft logo as well," Hansen said.

Preserve our Lives
Due to poverty rate in our country, Nigeria, many of our brothers and sisters who get sick with terminal illnesses or close, have no access to medical treatment. With family members struggling to save the lives of their loved ones, the family is further impoverished. Only a matter of time before something else destroys such family. Many are forced to look to the public to help save the lives of their loved ones, many too young to die, many just starting out.Terminal illnesses are sad, painful, every second of it very long to sufferers. As people, as Nigerians, we MUST care. It may be anyone tomorrow. Let us put an end to this.
We know for a FACT: our country is wealthy. If we really wanted, we can build mansions on oceans for every citizen and not get broke.
We know for a FACT: Billions of dollars are looted every time of the year, denying citizen basic amenities, a chance to live a fulfilled life for their less than 100 years of living (even shorter in recent times)
We know for a FACT: Nigerians are one of the most, if not the most religious people in the world. If we really love and respect God, it's time we started to show empathy by being actively responsible, to show respect for human lives and treat life as sacred, to fight for the life of our brothers and sisters, and to the dying, make it as painless as possible by providing them with adequate health care.
We hereby call on the Nigerian government, with immediate and urgent attention to create, establish a separate account, with full disclosure and transparency to fund its citizens with terminal sickness or close (this would be clearly spelled out by professional medical experts) so adequate health care will be made directly accessible to sufferers. This would be a short term arrangement until first class medical clinics/hospitals are built all over the federation, properly equipped and staffed, so that every citizen with life-threatening diseases may have access to medical treatment and yes, Nigerians, with every hardship they go through daily, with life they believe there's hope. Let's try to preserve that at least.Private sectors may contribute but they will not if they do not feel obliged. It is the responsibility of the government to protect and preserve the lives of its citizens. Underdevelopment, further aggravated by government shortcomings, have led many into a state where treatable diseases have become death sentence. This, at least, should stop. It is somebody's son today, it might be your own daughter tomorrow. Please, Nigerians; people and government, rich or poor, let us give quality to life, let's fight for the lives of our own and treat the dying with the utmost respect.
Be kind enough to share this with all your friends, family, neighbours, colleagues. Even your enemy, we all have one thing in common. LIFE.
Share and sign your name.
Sincerely, Aminat Yusuff.
Signed; The Entire Midas Banter Team

Of Loyalties and Truths: What Reuben Abati should Know By Nnamdi Okose
When to be loyal and when to jump ship
One of the most celebrated cases of betrayal is that of the biblical Judas. It was Judas that sold out his master for 30 pieces of silver and sealed the whole transaction with a kiss. It would be interesting to ponder on what would have been transpiring in the mind of the betraying Judas. At that point of betraying Jesus, did he have a philosophical basis or was it all about the quid? Did he view betraying Jesus as an altruistic act, something the Jews would one day thank him for?

Unbelievable!!! Rihanna calls Chris Brown ‘the love of my life,’ confirms that they still see each other
who famously assaulted her in 2009, and her feelings for him remain complicated.
In a new interview that aired Sunday night on "Oprah's Next Chapter," the 24-year-old "We Found Love" singer said that since the restraining order preventing Brown from seeing her was eased in February, they have met up, including at a friend's party aboard a yacht in St. Tropez in July. "We've been
working on our friendship again," Rihanna, appearing emotional at times, told Oprah. "We're very, very close
friends. We built a trust again and that's it. We love each other, and we probably always will. And that's not anything that we're going to try to change. It's not
something you can shut off if you've ever been in love." As far as whether it's romantic, Rihanna said it's not. "He's in a relationship of his own," Rihanna said,
referring to Brown's girlfriend, Karrueche Tran. "I'm single. But we have maintained a very close relationship ever since the restraining order was dropped. We just worked on it little by little, and it has not been easy. It is not easy." She admitted that when she sees him she works hard to keep control of her
feelings for him, because she becomes so overwhelmed by emotions in his presence "It's awkward. It's awkward because I still love him," she said. "My stomach drops and I have to maintain this poker face, and not let it get to the outer part of me. I have to maintain that, suppress that, but interpret it, understand it, and know that's not going to go away. When you don't understand those feelings, you can make a lot of mistakes." Rihanna was very candid when Oprah asked if Brown was her true love. "Absolutely," she quickly answered.
"I think he was the love of my life. He was the first love, and I see that he loved me the same way. We were very young and very spontaneous. We ran free.
We ran wild. We were falling in love going in at a really rapid pace, and we forgot about ourselves as
individuals." She also addressed her critics who have been disappointed that Rihanna would let Brown back into
her life. "I have to move on. I have forgiven him. It took me a long time. I was angry for a long time," she
said. "I can't tell people how to feel about it. They're entitled to feel angry because it wasn't a good thing that happened. But I have forgiven him."

2 sheriff's deputies dead, 2 hurt in La. shootout
LAPLACE, La. (AP) — Two sheriff's deputies in Louisiana were shot to death and two others were injured in an early morning shootout west of New Orleans, authorities said Thursday.
The sheriff in St. John the Baptist Parish said five people are in custody.
A tearful Sheriff Michael Tregre said the incident started when a gunman opened fire for unknown reasons on a deputy working an off-duty traffic detail along a highway that connects U.S. Highway 61 with the busy industrial corridor along the Mississippi River. That deputy was wounded.
Tregre said someone called deputies with a description of a car fleeing the scene, and officers tracked it to a nearby trailer park.
When officers found the car, they handcuffed a suspect outside a trailer, then knocked on its door. Tregre said someone with a dog answered.
"Another person exited that trailer with an assault weapon and ambushed my two officers," Tregre said. Two deputies were killed and a third was wounded.
Two suspects were wounded in the shootout before officers subdued them, Tregre said.
The dead deputies were identified as Brandon Nielsen, 34, and Jeremy Triche, 27. The wounded officers were Jason Triche, 30, and Michael Boyington, 33. They were being treated at area hospitals but the extent of their injuries was not known. The Triches are not believed to be related.
The suspects were not immediately identified.

First woman to moderate presidential debate in 20 years
become the first woman in 20 years to moderate a
presidential debate when she questions President
Barack Obama and his Republican rival Mitt Romney
in October.
The cable network's chief political correspondent is
set to lead one of three debates before the November
6 general election, the bipartisan Commission on
Presidential Debates said on Monday.
"I am wowed, amazed and excited by the opportunity
to moderate a 2012 presidential debate," Crowley
said.
The move follows a recent push for a female
moderator since ABC's Carole Simpson in 1992. The
commission made no mention of the gender
milestone in making its announcement, only the
moderators' expertise.
"These journalists bring extensive experience to the
job of moderating, and understand the importance of
using the expanded time periods to maximum
benefit," the commission's co-chairmen Frank
Fahrenkopf and Michael McCurry said.
Several female U.S. lawmakers and other women's
groups pressed for a newswoman to lead a debate
after three New Jersey teen-aged girls began an online
petition at Change.org. The girls also called on
Romney and Obama, a Democrat, for support.
"It is long past due to have a woman on the same
stage as the men running for president," one of the
girls, Sammi Siegel, wrote online. Their petition drew
170,000 signatures, several lawmakers said earlier
this month.
Other debate moderators include PBS Newshour's Jim
Lehrer on October 3 and CBS News' Bob Schieffer on
October 22. Both have led several past presidential
debates. ABC News' Martha Raddatz will moderate the
October 11 debate between Vice President Joe Biden
and Romney's running-mate U.S. Representative Paul
Ryan of Wisconsin.

Gas prices are rising and they’re a real drag on household budgets. The Energy Department is expected to report another jump today in average prices. One reason for the rise is the soaring cost of ethanol, an ingredient in gasoline. Global oil prices are close to $93 for West Texas Crude, a rise from a month ago, but still well below the peak reached in early April. A survey of business traffic commissioned by British trade body UKinbound during the three weeks of the London games has found that 82 percent of tourism-oriented businesses suffered lost business versus the same period of 2011. Two-thirds said the numbers of tourists fell more than 10 percent. The group says a survey of more than 250 tour operators, hoteliers and visitor attractions found that tourist traffic fell all over Britain, not just London. The group says many travelers chose to skip the UK entirely because it would have required travel into London.

WikiLeaks says its site has suffered weeklong denial-of-service attack
LONDON - The secret-busting organization WikiLeaks says it's been the victim of a sustained denial-of-service attack which has left its website sluggish or inaccessible for more than a week.
In a statement released late Saturday the group said the assault intensified around the beginning of August and has since expanded to include attacks against affiliated sites.
Denial-of-service attacks work by overwhelming websites with requests for information. WikiLeaks has said it's been flooded with 10 gigabits per second of bogus traffic from thousands of different Internet addresses.
Josh Corman, with online content delivery company Akamai, characterized that as "a bit larger" than attacks commonly seen in the past few years.
WikiLeaks, which has angered officials in Washington with its spectacular releases of classified U.S. documents, remained inaccessible Sunday.

Rihanna reveals plans to live with Chris Brown - Report
The celeb couple's 'rekindled romance' has been the talk of the press for quite a while now and it has recently intensified quite a lot, as the pair supposedly hooked up during a recent French vacation.
A source has told Look Magazine: "Rihanna is convinced it'll work this time. She and Chris had two intense days on that yacht [in France] and talked properly for the first time in years"
They then added: "Rihanna's asked Chris a million time before to break up with his girlfriend, but this time she believes he will do it."
"She wants him to live with her in LA once he sells his house, which is on the market at the moment."
Meanwhile, the pair will continue to have their 'secret hook ups' it seems, but have no intention of revealing all to the world just yet.
A friend of Chris Brown has told Hollywoodlife, “They still talk…on the regular"
He then added: “He probably talks to [Rihanna] three or four times a week by phone or text. And you already know they [are] sending each other messages and s*** on…Twitter"
But, as the source explains, it doesn’t just stop at talking. “[Their] relationship is what it is. They talk when they talk. They hook up when they hook up…They are two grown…people and can do whatever the f*** they want,” the friend says. “I guess they just don’t want all the press in [their] business. They need some privacy, too…I know some of the boys [are] pushing Chris to just go ahead and make [it] official with Rihanna but he [won't budge.]“

Three more U.S. soldiers killed by Afghans in grim day for NATO
KABUL (Reuters) - Three U.S. Marines have been shot dead by an Afghan worker on a military base in southern Afghanistan, in a deadly 24 hours for NATO-led forces during which six American soldiers were killed in rogue attacks.
The shooting took place on Friday night in the Garmsir district of Helmand province, where three U.S. special forces soldiers were killed by an Afghan policeman and comrades earlier in the day.
"Let me clearly say that those two incidents clearly do not reflect the overall situation here in Afghanistan," the chief NATO force spokesman, Brigadier-General Gunter Katz, told reporters on Saturday.
The three Marines were shot by a base employee who turned a gun on them, in the third rogue attack in four days. Foreign military sources said the man had not been wearing a uniform and it was unclear how he got hold of the weapon.
